Military Spouses Appreciation Day; May 8th, 2015

It's been awhile.

But here I am, and I figured what way to come back to my blog than to talk about an occasion that actually means a lot to me.

While today is the first time I've ever even heard of this National Holiday (and yes, it is a real holiday...check it here) I wanted to discuss it with you all.

Yes, the servicemen and women go overseas and deal with things none of us can ever even begin to comprehend, and I don't want to take away any honor from them. They do things I would never want to do, let alone be forced to do.

But what happens to their significant others? They sure as hell don't just sit around eating bon bons waiting for their soldier to come home. Its extremely stressful. When they have families to take care of, they are now doing it solo. Sure, from time to time they are able to talk to their loved one over seas, but they are told to not ever say anything about any hardships going on back here, as to not stress the warrior out with other petty things. (which makes sense, given what they have to see on a daily basis over there)

And let me add a little disclaimer here; while I fortunately did not have to deal with my husband going overseas, he did go before I knew him. When our heroes come home, there is a whole other world that military spouses now have to deal with. There are STILL and will ALWAYS be things I was not ever prepared to deal with. I understand that now, and I have been working on myself to be able to help him. My husband is the most amazing man I have ever had the privilege of being with. Every single day that I am with him, I fall in love with him even deeper. There is no one in this world that I would rather be with, and there is absolutely no reason that I would ever give up on him. He has saved me, as much as I feel that I have helped him. We continue to do so for each other daily.

But for military spouses, it is very nice to have a day to be recognized.
After not knowing what to expect, and dealing with deployment, VA, commission issues,  PTSD, (and all the lovely things that come along with that) and all the other hoops we have to go through, the spouses deserve this.

I have had the opportunity to meet some amazing people when I was in search of how to deal/help my vet.
I have heard some crazy, and amazing stories.

One of the most beautiful, strong women that I greatly look up to is Cissie. She has literally been through hell and back, and I admire her strength!
You can see her story here.

So to all of our strong, brave spouses, from one to another, I salute you!
