If you've been following me for any ammount of time now, you have heard me talk about setting intentions.
But maybe you're wondering, what are intentions and why are people telling me to set them?
I figured I would explain a bit more!
Intentions vs. Goals
Goals are more future/long term, where intentions are more based in the present. For example, I have a goal to save a million dollars by 2021. (Haha) I have intentions this week of not buying coffee every day this week.
Your goals and intentions can work together. My intention of not buying a coffee every day helps set me up for my goal of saving a million dollars.
For me, intentions are easier to set and stick to. A great tip I got from Lauren (Badass Business Babe) was to hang your list of intentions for the month (or week) up where you can see them every day. This way, you can glance at them randomly or purposefully.. and you can watch them come into fruition! Seeing them all the time also acts like a little nudge holding you accountable.
Well that's all fine and dandy Marcie, but what should my intentions be?
Get specific. "Go to the gym" is great, but what happens when you get there? Are you going to just take selfies or scroll Facebook? Or are you going to go knock out some cardio? Maybe you want to do a certain number of reps or a certain amount of time on the elliptical. Write it down!
Dont overwhelm yourself. Just as you would with a goal, make your intention realistic and attainable.
Here are some of my Intentions for August:
- Less mindless TV, more intentional TV. (Not having it on for noise, etc. Watching the news, specifically watching a show or movie)
- Movement (doing yoga daily, going for walks daily)
- Less eating out, more eating at home.
- Connecting with people on social media rather than just liking their posts.
- Being present with my family (aka phone down)
- Turn all of my inspiration into creation! (Posting on my blog for real)
These are all simple things I can do every day. Little steps I can take toward the life I want to live.
Try it out!
Set a couple, and let me know how it goes!
